Skateboarding has been a significant and defining part of my life, shaping the way I view challenges, perseverance, and creativity. Over the years, I’ve learned countless lessons from my time on a skateboard—lessons that extend beyond the physicality of the sport and into the way I approach life. So when I heard that a friend wanted to learn to skate, I knew it was something I needed to document.

This project is about capturing the essence of skateboarding: the sense of community, the thrill of landing a trick, the joy in the process of trying, and the pure fun of simply riding around. Skateboarding isn’t about competition or winning—it’s about personal expression and pushing boundaries on your own terms. There are no set goals or rules for how you should skate, which is part of what makes it so special. Everyone approaches it in their own way, free from judgment or expectations.

In documenting my friend’s journey into skateboarding, I want to showcase how it’s a deeply personal experience for each skater. There is no right or wrong way to start; you simply start and see where the ride takes you. Through this project, I hope to convey the freedom, joy, and sense of belonging that skateboarding brings to people, regardless of their skill level or experience.
